In foreign locations and war zones, units often have to contend with crowds gathered for religious holidays or protesting. Experience shows that an even simple gathering has the potential to quickly explode into an armed and violent riot. Such gatherings are also often the target of oppositional forces seeking to create fear and chaos. Operators will learn and practice command and control capabilities when dealing with levels of crowd disturbances that include peaceful demonstrations, unarmed crowd disturbances, unarmed riots and armed mob violence.
